Everyone Can Create
April 29, 2018
Let me start off by saying this: the Everyone Can Create movement is absolutely amazing. The idea and purpose behind it is so original and so useful that it saddens me that I didn’t have this opportunity to use when I was in high school. This amazing project is something that is so innovative and creative that it literally makes students feel like the sky is the limit. For this last big assignment for my Educational Technology class we had to take a look at the two iBooks, the teacher guide and the student one to be able to have both perspectives. When I was reading the Everyone Can Create Teacher Guide, I noticed that every section had objectives listed. I feel that this is super important because it makes it easier for us to align our state objectives with the ones in the iBook. It also serves to remind us that while this assignment is fun and different, there is a purpose behind it. Another major thing I noticed is that every activity is very student centered. This is a huge plus because a phrase it constantly repeats is “we see and know...but we need to help students...” I find this very satisfying because as educators we have to constantly remind ourselves that while we have all this knowledge and understanding, the students may not. One last thing I really liked as well was that the iBook has checkpoints for what the student should have done at the end of each activity. This is very useful as it should help keep the students on task. As I read the Student Guide for Everyone Can Create, the format was very similar to the teacher one, which is huge sell for me. But also, it had little tips strewn about in places where there might be some confusing parts or where students may need an extra push as to how to do something. Another thing though, it also has little clouds that are “think about this...” which promotes a deeper understanding of the tool or higher level thinking of that certain activity. This is very cool because again, this helps the students know that they can have fun and be able to learn from it. Overall, I think this Everyone Can Create project is phenomenal and if presented with the opportunity, I will find a way to incorporate it in my future classroom. |
Below are the examples I did through using the Student Guide of ECC. It was a really fun experience. Obviously I am not the best artist in the world, but I tried to do projects that I would potentially assign to my students. All of the images are based off the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I plan on teaching this book someday to my future classes. An idea that I was able to take away from this is the imagery that is in the book could be easily presented using this technology. I could assign the students to pick a scene or image that stands out to them while reading the book and then draw inspiration from the outdoors and then actually draw it! I think it would be good to incorporate a little art into my lessons.
