Getting Started with iMovie
February 8, 2018
I’ve always found myself very jealous of all the people who knew how to make iMovies because I’ve always thought they are the coolest things ever. After reading the iBook for iMovie, I am no longer jealous! The Apple Teacher Learning Center never disappoints because I have now learned how to use various functions within the app.
For example, I really enjoyed using the Ken Burns effect which zooms in or out on any image that’s included in the clip. I think is the very useful because if I were to zoom in on an image and I wanted my students to hone in on one specific thing about the image for close analysis, then I could hint at that piece of the image because it is more important by integrating the Ken Burns effect.
The other tool that I think the students would enjoy is the Voice-Over effect that can be included by using the recording feature within iMovie. For whatever reason, kids have very mixed feelings about hearing their voice on a recording. They either think it’s hilarious, or weird, or uncomfortable because they don’t know what their voice sounds like. Either way, this tool would be great in getting them to literally speak out what they’ve learned throughout the project. Or it could also be used to clarify something in the image or clip that isn’t quite understandable.
The best part about this however, is that I will be able to answer any questions my students have about how to insert a clip or an image or how to split a clip in two because I already know how to do that and more!
